The Atrium Centre of the North Walsham School will be a league above the ordinary school halls that normally double as modest recreational facilities for community use during non-school hours. The new £5.3m facility of the North Walsham School will be a major new addition on Norfolks’s map, featuring all facilities from a 200 seat cinema, a 1500 sqft dance studio and a fully equipped cookery suite to a sound-proof recording studio, music rooms, meeting rooms and a crèche.
FlexiDry fast drying floor screeding was installed over 2300 s.m of the building, enabling the final finishing contractors to get on with the final floor covering without the delay presented by normal anhydrite screeds. FlexiDry floor screeds present the advantage of quick drying time while ensuring quality, strength and durability. As FlexiDry comes in a range of drying time from 21 days to 3 days- the variation possible by just altering the amount of liquid additive that is added to the screed mixture- contractors have the flexibility of choosing the formulation that best suits the project time line.
The Atrium Centre project is a joint venture of the North Walsham School and the Benjamin Foundation, and has been funded by the Government’s ‘Co-location grant given for projects that locate services together in innovative ways. The building has also adopted several sustainable solutions including air source heat pumps and solar water heaters, and will be assessed by BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) for conformity to sustainability standards.
The Centre is hoped to highly benefit the school as well as of the wider community in general, with the range of facilities the building offers. The official opening is expected to be carried out in January by a member of the Royal family.
