FlexiDry Floor Screed, the sustainable complement to The Bluff, Chinnor

FlexiDry F3 has been chosen as the perfect green screed for the new £3.1m green home taking shape on the hillside of Chinnor, Oxfordshire. The elegant 5200sq.ft private home, called ‘The Bluff’ is Mivan’s first venture as main contractor under the banner of Prime Development.

From the green grass roofs, glazed facades and cast iron pergolas to bio-mass boilers and solar panels, every aspect of ‘The Bluff’ is a reflection of contemporary luxury teamed with sustainable architecture. The ultra-contemporary, 5-bedroom house is designed by Italian architects Lazzarini Pickering, and also features a swimming pool, library and specially landscaped grounds blending into the hillside.

FlexiDry fast drying floor screed with a drying time of 21 days was able to provide the perfect energy efficient screeding solution for ‘The Bluff’, complementing the other energy saving techniques used in the building. Being very good conductors of heat, FlexiDry floor screeds work seamlessly with underfloor heating systems, transferring the heat efficiently and keeping the energy requirement at the source to the minimum.

Some of the other reasons FlexiDry floor screeds tops the list in sustainable construction are:

  • Lesser screed requirement, as FlexiDry floor screeds can be laid at lesser thickness than normal screeds
  • Minimal wastage as FlexiDry floor screeds can be mixed at the site as per requirement
  • Logistical advantages due to lesser bulk, as FlexiDry is available as a highly concentrated liquid
  • 100% recyclable
  • No requirement for polythene curing

Moreover, FlexiDry is safer to handle than ordinary floor screeds as the liquid concentrate has been specially formulated to replace the normal fine dust-like screeds, which is found to be harmful to the screed operatives in the long run.

The construction of The Bluff which commenced in October 2010 is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.
