
In addition to widening the opportunities available to the students of St Faith’s, the sports hall is envisaged to be serve the local community by making the facilities available for community needs and holidaying parties after school hours.
The sports hall is built on the site of the recently demolished gymnasium, and the Principal contractors Haymills, who are part of the Considerate Contractors Scheme made sure the construction process was carried out with minimum disruption to the school and its neighbours.
The 31m x 18m sports hall complex features four full size badminton courts, a full size basketball court, netball and volleyball courts with removable posts, indoor football markings, and indoor hockey with collapsible goals in addition to a 12 x12 floor area for gymnastics, aerobics, judo, kung fu and dance.
The type of screed used over the under floor heating makes a big difference in the quality of heating and the energy consumption of the under floor heating system. FlexiDry screeds work well with under floor heating and serve to provide even heating across the room while utilizing lesser energy as the screed acts as a good conductor of heat.
Under floor heating was used for the sports hall and FlexiDry fast Drying floor screed provided the subfloor for 2500 sq.m of the building. FlexiDry fast drying floor screeds is one of the most preferred screeds for hard wearing surfaces such as sports hall floors and is found to be an excellent complement for under floor heating.
The Sports Hall complex which was opened in May 2011 by the Mayor of Cambridge boasts of varied facilities that will help improve the health and well being of the children, promote the value of physical activity and team sports and provide the facilities for individual activities and enjoyment. The complex has been designed with all amenities including changing rooms on two floors, separate changing rooms for staff, an office for the games staff and a classroom with a kitchen attached.
